Although the faculty provides us with the foundation, we most often gain a real understanding of what it means to be an engineer through people with experience - our mentors. They are the ones who share personal experiences and help us better understand how the profession functions in the real world.
Mentors do not speak to us only in theoretical terms. They explain what a typical working day of an engineer looks like, the kinds of problems engineers face, and how decisions are made in practice. Through examples from their own experience, they show us that engineering is not always as “ideal” as it appears on paper. It requires critical thinking, patience, and adaptability.
One of the most important roles of a mentor is guidance. As students, we often do not know which track is most suitable for us or what it truly means to work in a particular field.

In engineering education, they serve as a bridge between the academic environment and industry, transfer experience gained from real projects and prepare new generations of engineers for the actual demands of the profession.
